Like Daughter, Like Son? New Article by Keera Allendorf

Keera Allendorf’s latest article is “Like Daughter, Like Son? Fertility Decline and the Transformation of Gender Systems in the Family.” Appearing in Demographic Research, Keera’s article develops the theory around the consequences for de

cline in fertility for gender roles in the family — a question that has not yet been fully addressed in the research. Relying on qualitative interviews with respondents in Nepal, Keera shows that declining fertility is associated with greater gender symmetry between sons and daughters, including a closing gender gap in education and more sexual activity before marriage, thus illustrating new theoretical pathways between fertility decline and control and family structure. It’s a really interesting paper that will surely spark future research! Take a look!
